Penny Nichols
Penny Nichols paints the landscapes and neighborhoods she's seen all her life. Raised on 'Oahu, she's made her home on Kaua'i since1974.
Her philosophy is simple. "I want to capture the mood of a subject, the thing that first caught my eye. I see beauty in everyday scenes and want to showcase our historic places that will one day disappear."
Nichols' art has won numerous awards. The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts has purchased four of Penny's paintings for its APP (Art in Public Places) collection.
Her portraits have been selected six times for the Maui Arts and Cultural Center's prestigious Schaefer Portrait Challenge, a juried triennial event.
Nichols taught high school art at Island School on Kauai for over 21 years. She currently paints in her studio in Lihu'e. The art of Penny Nichols hangs in homes and offices throughout Hawaii, across the mainland and Europe.
