Heather Almeda paints loosely and is inspired by the photographs she has snapped around the island. Her favorite subjects are tropical flowers, papayas, cute houses, and the beach. She finds color inspiration in vintage photographs and stacks of old Pyrex bowls. She enjoys the process of creating abstraction within realism. She leans toward bold strokes and colors that leave space for imagination and play.
She lives in Kaneohe in an open loft space with big windows overlooking the Ko’olau Mountains, which are a constant source of inspiration for her. She has a small studio near the beach in Kailua where she tries her best to paint every day.
