JULIE GOLDSTEIN

I am inspired by fearless women and am interested in their relationships with their surroundings. My themes often explore empowerment, maternal protection, independence, and nurturing. I also enjoy a little bit of humor and cynicism.  I combine woodcut, found fabric, drawing, painting and traditional sewing techniques to construct images which come from my personal experiences.

I have been involved in production from various positions, seeking original visual expression via 2D , video & spatial design. Personal work in recent years include continued exhibition of surfboard repiar skill combined with wood , yarn , resin to create a energetic visual expression.

"Knokke-polyptych" From the Landscapes with Figures Portfolio, 2002.  Eight offset lithographs / 33.5 x 25.75 in (85.09 x 65.41 cm)

Italian photographer Massimo Vitali documents landscapes populated by tourists. His experience in photojournalism lends his photographs the character of an official document rather than enticing advertisement. The wide lens and sharp clarity suggests surveillance or voyeurism, subtly destabilizing the photograph’s care-free subject matter.

Massimo Vitali (Italian, b. 1944) studied photography in London before becoming a photojournalist in the 1960s. His most well-known works are his series of large-format Italian beach panoramas. These painterly photographic tableaus are generally marked with saturated color and highly-studied camera placement as well as vertical height. He lives and works between Lucca, Italy, and Berlin, Germany.

SURFACE INTERFACE II

A SOLO EXHIBITION BY STEVEN KEAN
OPENING RECEPTION: SATURDAY/ DECEMBER 17, 2017 / 1-6P

Through an ongoing passion for printmaking,

and a love affair with the ocean, STEVEN KEAN continues to expand his collection of wave studies, 'Surface Interface II'.  The relief prints that define his work render what may have only previously been an abstract feeling for an ocean minded person.  In a simplistic black and white format, Kean depicts the raw power and beauty of the sea through a repetition of crisp line work and elegant mark making.

Opening reception will take place at our Haleiwa Store Lots location with live entertainment and light pupus.
